TUBES COLUMBUS

DATATION:

Columbus SL, used by the larger part of the Italian bike manufactures in the late 1970s and early 1980s, is a high-quality double-butted tube set made of Cyclex cro-mo steel.
Columbus SLX has been released in the 1970s as landmark of Columbus tubes. It is made of Cyclex cro-mo steel. In order to make it stiffer und suited to any kind of terrain, it has been added a helicoidal reinforcement to the bottom bracket and to the seat, down tube butted section and lighter chain stays.
Columbus TSX is made of Cyclex cro-mo steel and is lighter than SLX model. All the main tubes have the internal helicoidal reinforcements. It is suitable for long-distance races over mixed terrain.
Columbus MAX, released in the late 1980s, has been lightened just avoiding the internal helicoidal reinforcements and using Nivacrom steel. The main tubes have an elliptical section at their end; the top and the down ones are oversized.
Columbus EL is popular for its lightness due to the reduced tubes thickness. This double-butted tube set is made of Nivacrom steel. It has been mainly used for time trial, climbs and triathlon events.
Columbus Genius, made of Nivacrom steel and launched in 1991, has been designed to optimize climbing and descending. It has larger diameters and thinner walls, down to 0.4 mm in the central section.
Columbus Cromor has been designed in the 1990s and is a butted tube set indicated for high-performance light frames, although it can be also used for larger frames. It is made of Cyclex cro-mo steel.
Columbus Nemo has been produced in 1996 with Nivacrom steel. Famous for its “zona butting concept”, its length and proportions have been designed in order to make it stronger. Different shapes of down tubes available.
